The principle of Homoeopathy is “SIMILIA SIMILIBUS CURANTUR” that literally translates to “Like cures like”; in a layman’s language a substance, which if capable of producing some symptoms in a healthy individual will cure the same in a diseased individual.

For the beginners- it is enough to know that it is a system of medicine, which was founded in 18th century! By Dr Samuel Hahnemann – himself a graduate of Modern Medicine (MD in Medicine).

Homoeopathy – Now and How!

As per a World Health Organization report, “Herbal medicines have been increasingly used over the past three decades. For example, in Europe in 2003, herbal medicine sales were worth 5 billion US dollars. The cost of the traditional Chinese medicines used in China in 2008 was 26 billion US dollars. The value of Japan’s production of its traditional medicines, known as Kampo medicines, reached almost 1 billion US dollars in 2007. Homoeopathy is one of the most commonly used forms of herbal medicines. There is a large market for homeopathic products around the world. For example, in 2008, Australia spent 7.3 million US dollars on homeopathic medicines; France spent more than 408 million; Germany 346 million and the United Kingdom more than 62 million US dollars. In the United States, adults spent 2.9 billion US dollars on homeopathic products in 2007.

Whether you term it as an herbal medicine, a traditional medicine or an alternative medicine…though the usage of Homoeopathic medicines differ from country to country, in the last half-century it has gained lot of importance in the field of medicine.

With the focus worldwide changing more towards holistic medicines, more and more people are leaning towards holistic science. From being nowhere earlier in comparison with the main stream medicine it has found its place in the WHO Traditional Medicine Strategy for healthcare.

Homoeopathy is slowly and surely finding its pace in healthcare system. Now found in almost every country in the world with an increasing demand Homoeopathy primarily aims in treating the individual who is diseased not the disease in the individual.

    Doc
Do you generally rely on lab / other investigations to monitor therapy or is it based on symptoms (subjective data) alone?

Yes. Classical homoeopaths like me always use modern day investigation modalities. We do use symptoms (like all other disciplines of medicine) and also use objective parameters
